Our Business

Our business model for Mendocino Wine Grapes and Wine is actually quite simple. Our goal is to assist the myriad of family owned vineyards and wineries in Mendocino County expand their markets by offering the highest quality grapes and wine to wineries and home wine makers inside and outside of California. Mendocino is a gem that is waiting to be fully discovered after more than 150 years of growing fabulous grapes and producing exceptional wines.

Who We Are

Husband and wife team Fred R. Buonanno and Heather McKelvey started Philo Ridge Vineyards in 1999. The first vintage was a whopping 162 cases of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon! Since then the winery has grown to 2200 cases and the line up consists of Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vino di Mendocino and Coro Mendocino.

"It has been a very interesting and enjoyable journey. We have both learned a great deal about the very involved world of growing grapes and the whole wine making process. And we continue to learn more each and every day".

In addition to Fred and Heather, the Philo Ridge Vineyards team consists of vineyard dogs Boo and Poncho and winery cat Wilbur. Of course associated family, friends and neighbors always pitch in when the need arises.
